While the desktop OSes provide the framework for end user computing, end users -- knowledge workers especially -- rely on desktop applications to perform almost every task on their desktop. Applications allow users to view, edit and repackage corporate data and files, so IT needs to keep a close eye on all applications from a security and UX perspective.
